Iran blocks IAEA officials from entry to nuclear site

A two-day visit to Iran by the United Nation’s nuclear watchdog has ended in failure.

Officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency say they were denied entry by Iranian officials to a site that is suspected of making nuclear weapons. IAEA officials also expressed disappointment that Iran refused to answer questions about military dimensions to its nuclear program.

Iran’s lack of transparency comes at a time of increased sanctions against the Islamic Republic, assassination of its nuclear scientists and suspected retaliation against Israeli diplomats around the world. Iran has just ramped up its attack rhetoric warning that it would take pre-emptive action if it felt any of its interests were threatened.

The West has been encouraging Israel to hold off on any pre-emptive strike on Iran, to allow time for financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic to take full effect. But recent statements by Israeli officials show that patience in the Jewish state is running thin.
