Buenos Aires starts initiative to push kosher profile

27 july 2012

Buenos Aires is pushing to become the kosher capital of Latin America.

After working with restaurants, tour operators and Jewish institutions, the city’s authorities have launched an initiative called Buenos Aires Kosher Friendly.

The aim is to increase the supply of kosher foods in the city, which is home to nearly a quarter of a million Jews. The local kosher market is estimated by municipal authorities to be worth some USD 25 million.

Buenos Aires is already home to the first kosher McDonald's outside Israel, which was set up in 1998.
