A San Francisco based organization has launched 11 websites to tell the stories of Jews who left Arab countries last century. Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa or JIMENA launched the sites in both English and Arabic to tell the stories of Jews who emigrated from nine Arab countries including Turkey and Iran.
The sites tell the unique stories from each country using videos, photographs, and written narratives and often include oral history testimonies from Jews who fled to North America.
These sites come as the Israeli government has recently stepped up efforts to get the 850,000 Jews forced out of Arab countries recognized as refugees as a counter balance to the 500,000 thousand Palestinian refugees who fled Israel during the 1948 war.
